Backing up data from CentOS 5.5 server

Hello all,

I am just wondering if there is any nice piece of software for incremental backup which can be set to run every night.

Many thanks,
Jenish

Bacula and Amanda are popular backup applications.

That gives you two ends of the spectrum. Which is right depends on your situation.

If you are just talking about your one machine, then various solutions based on rsync will work. Google "rsync snapshot" and you will see several possibilities. The first link is the classic explanation of how to do it. Following are spinoffs and software packages that incorporate that method (rsnapshot, rdiff, etc.)

If you are talking about a network of computers, then Amanda or Bacula would work. I like Amanda and have several networked installations running it. Google "amanda backup".

To get rsync running on Windows, you need cygwin (for example http://www.gaztronics.net/rsync.php).

You could also use BackupPC. Run it on CentOS and backup to an smb share from the Windows Server.
