Hi,
I need a large amount of computation power for my calculations.
i currently have a machine with 2 quad core xeon cpu's and was told gpu is the way to increase power. i have managed to locate software necessary. i use ubuntu and was wondering would it be possible to attach a gpu to this motherboard? can anyone please advise me?

At it's simplest, GPU computing involves offloading work onto your graphics card. There is obviously a lot more to it.

Maybe you should find out a bit more what GPU computing is before deciding whether it is appropriate for your needs.

You won't get automatically get better performance with inserting video or compute accelerator cards. Your software has to be written to work on that cards (using Stream, CUDA or OpenCL), just installing CUDA or something like that will not work.

You probably can, but without knowing the motherboard all we can do is guess.

You can use lshw to find out the motherboard model.

Did you try running it as super-user, like lshw suggests?
