apache help - configuring

Hello Everybody:

I am trying to configure my Apache server. I am following this tutorial, but am not sure that I am able to find some of the stuff in the local apache2.conf file on my Linux system. (This is my first time configuring/using Apache).

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10t...ure-apache/477

are these tips a good way to secure an Apache server, specifically if you are using a tool like Owncloud? Also, are there any other good tips/recommendations you would recommend alongside?

Lastly: I try to output the contents of the .conf file to a text file, using the following command:
sudo cat apache2.conf > apacheConfigs.txt
I get this error message:
bash: apacheConfigs.txt: Permission denied
is there any way to put it out to a text file? I would like to be able to search the document.

For copying apache2.conf, use:
Code:
$ sudo -i
it will ask for your password, enter it. Now type
Code:
#  cat apache2.conf > apacheConfigs.txt
# exit
