Apache document roots outside of /var/www/html?

Hey LQ,

Anytime I set a document root to a directory other than /var/www/html I get a Forbidden error message. I'm sure this is simply a permission issue but even when I set the directory to 777 it gives me the same error.

I'm thinking I need to grant Apache access to this directory as well?

Hi,

Can you post your httpd.conf? Or the configuration file pertaining to that section? IIRC, Ubuntu has pretty funky apache setup. Also, this thread maybe of some use to you. If not, configs plz

edit: One last thing, your apache logs will tell you what's wrong. Post them here too if the above thread doesn't help.
