Amavis: bayes_journal keeps changing owners?

Running Debian mail server with Amavis. Every once in a while the cron job runs as amavis:
Code:
test -e /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob && /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob sa-sync
and I get the error:
Code:
bayes: bad permissions on journal, can't read: /var/lib/amavis/.spamassassin/bayes_journal
I checked the permissions and sure enough, the user:group has been changed from amavis:amavis to root:root. Not sure what is changing this. I did come across this thread, but the reported fix doesn't work:

I just inserted a cron job 1 min earlier than this to change the owner to amavis:amavis. Doesn't seem like a solution, but it will get the job done in the mean time.
