adding more space to existing partition

Hi,

I have almost run out of space in /var/mail.

I wanted to add a new harddisk to the system and create a logical volume so that the new harddisk and /var/mail both act as a single logical volume...

ie,

if my existing /var/mail is 40Gb and I add a new hard disk of size 120Gb , I want the new /var/mail to be 160Gb. I went through documentation of LVM how to and also tried to create logical volume...

but i have not been successful...

what are the steps to accomplish this ?? your help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

Is /var/mail already part of a logical volume?

Hello,

can you explain what you have done so far ?
After adding the physical hard drive what have you done ?
Where did you fail ?

Define your problem correctly !!!

There are lot of information you haven't provided in your post.
1. Is /var/mail a separate filesystem or embedded in /var?
2. Disk structure (Output of `du -h` & `fdisk -l`)
3. Is /var currently on Logical volume ?
4. If yes, provide output of lvdisplay & vgdisplay.
5. Where exactly you are failing ? Creation? Extension?
6. Error messages.
