Active Directory is a product of MS.

You can manage Windows Desktop with Samba.

For Patch Management System, you can use Kali to check for any missing updates but I think this is too much.

On your first question: You can configure SAMBA (in the latest versions) as a AD Controller. It will manage your domain in most ways, although the controls look far different than they would if yu used a Windows Server machine. One thing that does not (at my last check) work is the configuration directory replication. In other words, if you have multiple AD servers you must set up additional software to replicate the configuration on the domain.

On your second question: a little research turns up multiple tools for patch and configuration management for data center operations. None of them are trivial, and without knowing a lot more about your requirements or current situation.
