Accessing Squid Proxy server from outside my network

Hello together,

First I want to apology , but I am beginner in networking and Linux commands.

Second , I have the following situation : I want to create a Proxy server using Squid.
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 and until now I installed Squid and configured it ( a minimal configuration ). I managed to create a user and passwd . From what I see the server works because if I try to use my PC with the proxy credentials, it asks for User and Password and if they are correct I can surf the web. But both Raspberry and PC are on the same network.

The problem appears if I connect the Raspberry board to my phone (SIM internet access) or when I asked a friend to use the proxy. If I am trying to set the proxy settings in my PC using the Raspberry IP , it seems that the server is not reachable.
I tried to create an ACL with the IP of my PC and allow access to that ACL but still not reachable.

I thinks there is a certain settings that I need to do in the config file for the Proxy server to be visible from outside my network. Can anyone please provide me a clue where should i check/change ?

Thank you in advance,
G

What is the nature of that connection? Is the Raspberry server connected to the internet, or to a local network created on the phone, or is this a USB connection, or something else?

The questions you need to ask (and answer), in this order: Is the Raspberry Pi server not reachable? Or the Squid server? Or are they all reachable but the Squid server refuses your IP address or your login credentials or something else?

Can you ping the Raspberry Pi? If not, solve the connection problem at that level. Can the Raspberry access the internet or your PC?

Once you are confident there is some sort of connectivity to the computer, find out if there is connectivity to the Squid process running on the computer. When you try to connect to the Squid server port on the Raspberry (use a tool like ncat or telnet), is the connection refused? Do you get anything back when you send nonsensical data to Squid? I would expect some kind of error or rejection message, proving that you can in fact talk to Squid. Before you do this, you may want to configure Squid so that it accepts requests from anywhere.

Once you have established connectivity to Squid, check your Squid configuration.

I tried 2 things :
- connect the Raspberry to a HotSpot created from my phone.(the phone is using mobile data and is not connected to my local network)
- use a internet dongle with SIM and connect the Raspberry using USB connection
Both cases Raspberry is connecting to internet and I can check my IP using https://whatismyipaddress.com/

I see that I can not ping the Raspberry Pi using my PC . I tried to ping the IP shown when I connect my RasPi to https://whatismyipaddress.com/

When I try to make a Trace route it gets to Request Timeout after 12-13 hops
Also when I try to use PuTTy to connect to the RasPI , I get Network error : Connection Timeout

I will try to figure out what is the reason for not being able to ping the RasPi from my PC and come back with news.

But thank you so far for the hints.

Regards,
G
