1 machine server tutorial

I am trying to setup a linux (ubuntu or debian) server with a static IP
address as a web server for about 5 extenally visible web sites. So
I think that I will need a DNS server setup. Is 1 DNS server enough
( most registrars require 2 dns server addresses for a redirect)?
Is there a good RECENT ubuntu or debian tutorial?

This can help you to get on your feet. But wont learn a lot if you just copy paste the tutorial.
Most of registrars require two DNS servers but accept same IP so you enter same IP twice if you cant afford additional DNS server.
I would reccomend NOT to use your custom (private) DNS if you dont hae experience. You can setup your WEB server and use registrars DNS to point your domains to new web server IP.

Do you have a static IP address from your ISP? (You normally need a busines-level account for this.) If you don't have a business-level account, you should check your ISP's terms of service.

Most of them are hostile to public-facing servers run from home accounts.

Yes, it's a business level account.
markotitel - I was aware of ISPConfig3 - and I am trying not to use it so that
if something goes wrong I would like to understand how to troubleshoot.

Gene, I see, that is fine that was a proposition . Although I didnt have any problems troubleshooting ISP3 setups at all. Especially for small number of websites hosted.
