Why Linux never ask me for login password upon starting?

I installed linux system into a USB stick, but it never asks me to enter login password (i am the default user "root") when booting. I checked the settings in "User and Group" panel, and found everything there is OK. What additional settings should I make to this problem?
Thank you in advance!

What live distribution are you even using? We can't tell you exactly what your problem is or how to fix it without the proper information.

That would make it a lot easier. But it sounds like it's set up to "auto-login" and you don't really want that if it does it to root, Should be in system settings somewhere I'd think.

I would give my two cents where to look, but I don't even know what manager you are using, kdm, gdm, etc...

Is this via CLI or via GUI (seems trivial but this is bit of detail is actually important).

Are you trying to secure a live distros? Or are you just curious? I've seen a lot of live distros that are designed as flatout demos (they usually have no interest in security, as the idea is that most of the time, the distro install will be demonstrated then trashed). Maybe the password is cached? If it is CLI, maybe a key is being utilized and the key agent is running and the user account is already in a state of being logged in?

Yeah, it would help if we knew what distro you're asking questions about.
