virus question on Linux

Opensourcerers

I would like to ask, would it be possible for worms (created in Microsoft) to make a copy on a shared folder in Linux? and infect workstations running in Windows on a network?

I'm a newbie seeking virus info. on Linux

thanx!

Yes, certainly.

Which is one reason why you should always share any folder as "read only" unless you have a very good reason for doing otherwise.

Whether your hypothetical Microsoft worm could do any damage on your Linux system - the answer is "it depends"...

'Hope that helps .. PSM

Agreed. It's also a really good reason to get linux antivirus software if you are hosting windows shares...not so much for linux viruses/worms, but for the windows ones.
