tripwire modifies /root when run from cron

Hi,

I have tripwire run sometime during the night and have it email the results to me. Every time it runs it reports that /root was modified 2 seconds after tripwire started. All my jobs (for root) are put in a file in /root and then stored usng
Code:
crontab cronjobfile
The few times I run it manually it doesn't alter the /root modification date. Why is this? Would I be better putting
Code:
sudo `run tripwire`
in my normal users cron file, would this work?

PS I've been playing around with my iptables configuration and managed to block myself out so I haven' access to this box for about 2 weeks, nevertheless any help will be appreciated

My guess is it's emailing you the report... which changes the /root directory.

It is emailing me the report yes, but my mail file is /var/mail/root, so why should /root be modified?

It also emails me the report when I run it manually (as root) but then /root isn't modified

thanks for your help

Hrrm, that's interesting. Are you using vixie-cron for cron?
