the story of iptables


How strong actually an iptables if compare to the firewall like Cisco ASA and Checkpoint?

That's comparing apples to oranges. Iptables only provides a small subset of what something like Cisco ASA does. A much more fair comparison would be between Cisco ASA and a full-blown GNU/Linux firewall distro. Or conversely, compare only the stateful packet filtering features of Cisco ASA with Netfilter/Iptables.

Not sure what you mean, but you can get a list of GNU/Linux firewall distros here.

which one is the best that I can use for the learning and testing? if can run in VWware will be more better. e.g. DD-WRT can't run in VWware.
