securing my Mandrake 8.1 box.

Hey everyone! I recentally installed my copy of mandrake 8.1 and want to secure it. I downloaded a copy of fwbuilder and tried it.. Got my rules all set up and an xls file saved, But it won't compile it or install it. I understand that it has "IPTABLES".. how do I work this? It has been a while since I played with ipchains, and iptables is different.. any suigjestions? I just want to block some remote trojan ports, secure my broadcast ports just keep people from messin' with my comp. Not too difficult ruleset. any suigjestions? Anywhere that you know of with a script builder?

thankyou in advance!

Iptables basically is set up the same way ipchains was, using an executable script. I never used a script builder, but if you would search this forum you would find Raz's basic firewall script sooner or later (the 3rd reply). Hope that gets you started.

allrite.. The only thing is is I am not sure how to check if my iptables are installed properly.. When I run the fwbuild, and try to compile the firewall, it says something along the lines of "fw_iptables cannot be found." (not sure about the first two letters..

I checked out raz' script, But it is really long, and I am just protecting this one computer. I want something I can read and comprehend, or else I won't install it..

Whell, thankyou anyway!

Try this

use the firewall that came with your distro................................easy and effective.
tested it at GRC.com and at some other site, can't remember the name.
It worked very well.
