Unhappy SAFER+ algorithm.. Why eliminated from AES contest?

hi there.. Back in 1990s when AES contest was held, there 15 candidates where there but SAFER+ the one introduced by James Massy and his team did not make it to the finals.. If anyone knows why AES had eliminated SAFER+ cryptography algorithm? And I need a java code for it please because I found some problems with a C header files and I urgently need the codes right away if anyone got them.
