Question Requirements to simulate a DDoS Attack

hi ,
Am a both to linux and networking . I have basic knowledge but still...
My ultimate aim is to Simulate a ddos attack , generate some reports based on the attack .
All i know are the name of some applications such as NS3, VMware workstation , etc . I want to know what would be the set of ideal applications that i need to use to create a virtual lab, carry on ddos attack on my particular virtual network and then to generate some reports based on the attack. It would be a great help if you can help me so that i can get familiarized with those applications myself and reach my goal .Thanking you all in advance

regards,
Joe

Have you looked at the documentation on the VMware website?

I glanced at it a couple minutes ago and it seemed to me like a perfect place to get started on this.
