[root@MINE yours]# chown -vhR root /proc/version
ownership of `/proc/version' retained as root
[root@MINE yours]# /proc/version
bash: /proc/version: Permission denied

Thanks, I'm actually reading that out of a RH9 manual, I guess the manual was wrong or I'm not reading carefully enough.
