Problem for enable ip_forward in IPTABLES

Hello There

I´m Enabling NAT on Iptables (RH 9, Kernel 2.4.6)

Why the command echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward is returning bash - no such file or directory? The file exists on the dir, but the error occurs always i´ve tried to enable this...

Could be a typo?
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
