pop3 imap imaps

Hi,

Via nmap i found out that i have pop3, imap and imaps running. How do I remove these services from starting at boot as I don't use an email server currently?

In the future IMAP may come back if I understand how i can fill it with pop3 email from my mail account.

thanks,

Bastiaan

Do you know what mail server you're using? If not, you can find out by doing (as root)

netstat -tpa | grep LISTEN

Look for the IMAP, IMAPS, and POP3 ports and see what process is listening on them. Then find the corresponding initialization file in /etc/init.d or /etc/rc.d/init.d, and then do "/etc/init.d/<initscript> stop" to shut it down and "chkconfig <service> off" to prevent it from startong on boot.

Note that you haven't told us your distribution, so I've assumed you're using something Red Hat based. In the future, you need to specify which distro and version you are using to get the best answers to your questions.
