PHP-script save on Linux?

We're very new with Linux, so this question might be easy for you. We are just webdevelopers and we think Linux is the best OS for our product.
We're building a website in PHP, sort of like osCommerce. The user of this computer must be able to use all the scripts, but must NOT be able to read the scripts while browsing the HD. I know it's somehow possible to put scripts in some folder in Apache map so noone access it, only use it. But does that only count for PHP-scripts? Or also for scripts that are implemented in the httpdocs?

Or could anyone suggest other ways? I heard people talking about making a birairy, but that's not for webscripts i suppose?

We'd really appreciate it if someone could explain this issue in a somewhat novice language. Thank you in advance for your time and effort helping us.

So long as you only give apache read access to the files and read and execute access to the directories containing the files then no other user except root will be able to see the files.
