sorry business_kid, just a clarification...
the first post was slightly wrong: the issue i described does not affect a real "server", but a workstation that also serves as VERY simple server: my business is VERY small (me, myself and i) and my network only counts 1 desktop and 2 notebooks... i use the desktop to execute most of the scripts i need to run my business, so i call it "server"... but i'm wrong, it's just a plain workstation...

the modem/router is a cisco (linksys) X2000. until 5-6 months ago my network was perfectly stable and reliable, than i had the bad idea to upgrade the firmware and fix the wps vulnerability. after then, several issues started: dsl link drops, wifi signal is unstable and now this problem with nethogs... if i could just find somewhere the original firmware i would surely flash it back on my router... even with the wps vulnerability!
