Post Need help with building gcc cross compiler for ipfire-i586:i686

First of all, I apologize if this is not in the correct thread. I'm new to LQ and looks like I had a choice between linux security and linux networking.. Or maybe linux software.. I went with security even though it is mainly about programming for the firewall dist of linux-from-scratch.

I successfully built a couple cross compilers for osdeving. Two being for i686-elf and x86_64-elf. I know I have to obtain stuff like binutils, gcc source code, GNU GMP MPFR MPC, Texinfo, etc.. Then I configured and make the compilers.

So my question is, has anyone here successfully built a cross compiler running on hostA(debian-9.3.0-amd64 or whatever) to compile on hostB(ipfire-i586)? If so please elaborate or just point me to the right direction for stuff I will need for the build.

I've been searching for about a week since I've gotten ipfire setup on my home network. It looks like all I can do is get the source code and precompiled toolchain for ipfire and build all the dependencies with the source, then I could write addons or code within the ipfire box itself.. However, I have a dedicated PC for osdev and cross compiling and my ipfire box is headless so I would like to write code for it on my dedicated PC and upload the program to my ipfire box.

Oh wow ... I didn't even know what CLFS even was until you just informed me and I googled it. This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot!
Not sure if I should or even how to close this post or mark it at solved. Anyway, thank you.
(EDIT: big bold words at the top, mark as solved... durp :P)
