Malware infecting SOHO routers

http://arstechnica.com/security/2014...ating-malware/

In the recent episode of techsnap, an administration system podcast, talked about how SOHO routers like Linksys and other brands are running dated operating systems and some having back doors still opened and other unpatched exploits.

Allen and Chris recommended installing DD-WRT if compatible with your router over the installed OS on your current router.

Are these guys right or is it just their personal opinions on DD-WRT?

There was an issue with some routers that could be exploited. Many people most likely still have not updated the firmware, but it is also likely that they would care about ddrwt. They probably don't even know about the issues.

I would recommend replacing your router firmware with dd-wrt or openwrt. Why ? because router firmware tends to have backdoors.

I might take the dd-wrt plunge for my WRT54G router. It had the default OS since I bought it back in the mid 2000s.
