I appear to be having some strange behavior on a LUKS partition. I typically mount it manually. The passphrase now unlocks it only intermittently. (It possibly helps to run; cryptsetup luksDump /dev/nvme0n1p6 ??)

The only other thing I can imagine is the hardware is knackered, although the machine otherwise appears fine.

Any ideas why this could be happening? (p.s. I am sure I am not entering the wrong passphrase - it literally only works some of the time).

Is there any way to scan the partition or disk to look for errors?

you need to check the logs (in /var/log), probably you will find something relevant. You can use smartctl to check your disk. And don't forget to save/backup your valuable data.

Thanks. I'll check out the disk although I cannot see anything relevant in any of my logs (on Slackware btw).
