Hello everyone!
I know this could be considered off-topic, but I hope you'll forgive me when you see what a great opportunity it is. I'm an editor for New Riders Publishing, and we recently released the second edition of Robert Ziegler's Linux Firewalls. I will send a free copy of this book to the first 10 people to email me. All I ask in return is that you post a review of the book on Amazon when you get the chance. If you'd like the book, write to me with your name and address at elise.walter@newriders.com.
I hate to be the naysayer here but, if this were a person talking about a Microsoft related book, I believe that people would be saying that this is not an advertising site. What is the policy on such things here?

Well first of all - ads for a Microsoft product would be a complete waste of time. It would be like an ad for Marlboro cigarettes in 'Running Magazine' - definately the _wrong_ target audience.
Secondly, I personally don't see a problem with the post. Sure it looks, sounds, and tastes like advertising - but it was offered as a challenge and subject to what amounts to be a peer review. That (IMO) is one of the core features of Open Source.
Any policy regarding this is up to Jeremy but I will say here and now that it would be great if LQ could pick up some extra exposure and maybe even a couple of bucks here and there with projects like this. It's not like the New Riders rep was asking for admin access to the server.

I wouldn't really consider this an ad. She was offering a free book to the first 10 members who replied. From the other posts in the thread it looks like the people who did respond got a free book. That is not a bad deal! I would consider it a benefit of being a member.
