Question is the connection between two devices using the database secure enough?

hi. iam new to linux and the security systems in general. i want to know is the connection between two devices using the database secure enough. i want to send information between two devices. the security of one of them is so important. using the database and blocking all the other ports that can be used to for connection (by using the firewall).
is this system secure enough? if not? what is the problem? and what other type of security that can be used. the two devices are not far apart from each other. about 50 feets (the same lan). and the connection using the database should utilize the ssl and the certificates.

"Secure enough" is subjective. What OSes, what db, and what have you done to secure things already? Are the devices connected to the 'net or only to one another? Are they physically secured (i.e. in a locked, access controlled area)?

both devices should be physically locked. one of these devices is connected to the internet and the other is not. the operating system is linux fedora (8 or 9). the database system is mysql. this is the proposed system for a small mini project. the things that is proposed to secure the connection is using firewall. the firewall prohibit any connection type other than the database connection (via the port number).

Would your question happen to be related to this thread? If so, the connection between the two servers may be the least of your worries.

I don't know how to put this nicely: If you go forward with the approach in that thread, someone is going to quickly pwn your server.
