Question IP tables feature un understandable

what do you meant by the following feature of the ip table.this is confusing me.

Filtering packets based on a MAC address and the values of the flags in the TCP header. This is helpful in preventing attacks using malformed packets and in restricting access from locally attached servers to other networks in spite of their IP addresses.

please any body elaborate this i will be highly obliged.

Thanks and Regards,

Faddi.

Well it blocks traffic based on the MAC address of the data packet as opposed to the IP address. The MAC address is not in the TCP header though, it's in the Ethernet header.
