File permissions - What does the "." mean at the end of the permissions string?

Given the following ls -l output:

drwx------. 2 user user 29 Mar 9 12:00 mydir

What does the "." represent in the following output:

drwx------.

Finally, how would you go about setting, enabling or disabling this functionality?

Thanks in advance, and have a great day.
