i want to ask how i can protect my box from dos atacks...
and how i can test it ...

Easy, go to any IRC site that has h4k0rs or 3l337 as it's name and start calling everyone a bunch of lamer, sissies who couldn't hack their way out of a paper sack. That should do the job just fine. Just kidding. Seriously, don't do that.

How can you avoid it? Not real easily. You can do things like turning on SYN cookies, but for most DOS attacks you're ISP will have to be the ones to stop traffic at the upstream routers. In most DOS situations, people will call they're ISP and work with them to solve the problem.

If you were hoping for a dDOS howto, sorry, wrong website.
