any active linux firewall


i will have some free time on my hands (between summer school and the fall term) and was wondering if anyone knew of any active (more than just a packet filtering) linux firewalls that i could play around with. I obviously wouldn't want to pay for something, don't know if they even exist, thanx anyway

good firewall .. iptables(chains) is good for me.... but if you wont firewall like firewalls on windows ... install tcpdump .. it isnt firewall, but you can see planty of things ... also good thing for playing around .. catch some scriptkid ! !

Look at iptables / ipchains for packet filtering, squid for proxying, dante for socks and maybe even FWTK. These are all nice FW tools to play with...
