Guardian Digital released v3.0.7 of EnGarde Secure Linux on June 6, featuring a 2.6.12 kernel, several bug fixes, feature enhancements to the Guardian Digital WebTool and the SELinux policy, and several updated application packages, project spokesman Ryan W. Maple said.
It's the first development release since May 2003. Several new packages are available for installation, Maple added.
New features, as listed by the U.S.-based project team, are:
* A new package (hwlister) which, can be used to generate an inventory of all the hardware that comprises your system
* Rebuilt PHP, with Curl support
* The latest stable versions of MySQL (5.0.22), Apache (2.0.58), Asterisk (1.2.8), Bacula (1.38.9),Imap (2004g), Openssl (0.9.8b), PHP5 (5.1.4), Postfix (2.2.10), Snort (2.4.4), Sudo (1.6.8p12), Syslog-ng (1.6.11), Vim (6.4.010), and Zaptel (1.2.6)
EnGarde can be used as a web, DNS, email, database, and general Internet server, Maple said. Intrusion detection, gateway firewall, and complete web management come with EnGarde, and no Linux administration skills are required, Maple said.
Is this news or just a product announcement? So many linux distros are available, keeping track of just the names is a job in itself, much more the version numbers! Nonetheless, it's another linux site with press releases that might be fun to browse around for a few minutes...
They go on to say that this version of linux has free updates for 1 month then support is offered on a yearly subscription basis!
