You don't have the necessary privileges to install local packages

i am logged in as root on Fedora9, but everything i try to install gives error msg:
"You don't have the necessary privileges to install local packages"

i thought root was admin, i must be wrong

i only found one thread similar to this but he figured out his problem but didnt say how.

I have the same problem.
Mi ingles no es muy bueno. Me ocurre lo mismo y no consigo saber porqué. He leido algo de que fallaba el instalador de paquetes, pero hace unos meses. ¿Todavía no hay solución?

i was searching other forums and came across this http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...local+packages

basicly says create non root account, log in with that non root account, try your installs, enter root account password when asked.

fixed my problem

One more suggestion....may be helpful

If you are installing the software (source package or whatever) in graphical environment then I am not sure about the issue but if you are installing the software in command prompt and as root also if you are getting error "non privileged user" then try doing "su - "

provide password when prompted. This hopefully will solve your problem.
