sudo apt-get install xscreensaver should get the basics.
I have not done this with apt, but I have done it with Synaptic on Ubuntu up through 11.04, which is when I abandoned Ubuntu. There are several other related xscreensaver packages, including xscreensaver-data, xscreensaver-gl, and so on. In Synaptic, gnome-screensaver would get automatically uninstalled.
