xchat login problem


when i tried to connect to xchat on mandrake 9.2,

it says,

Unkown host. May be misspelled it ?
Cycling to next server in AmigaNet .....
Disconnected().

any idea ??

Are you connecting to the right server? Try connecting to
irc.freenode.net
If you can, then you have either the wrong server name or have misspelled it.

i tried to connect with irc.freenode.net also but same problem,

i just opened xchat through command prompt , it asked me to select the sever and i selet that pressed connect.

Cant you just skip the connect prompt?
And then type in the chat screen: "/server irc.quakenet.org"
You should be connecting to a server then.

Another thing, have you set a username at the options?

Are you able to display web pages on this machine?

Can you post the entire error message?

how can skip connect prompt, when i press xchat at command prompt it gave me a screen to choose the server and press connect.


@darthtux

yes i can view the webpages on this m/c and only that much error is there that i have already posted , all that keep repeating again and again.

What mindspin is talking about is when you press connect it brings up the main xchat window. In the bar where you enter text type in

/SERVER irc.freenode.net

I am out of answers on xchat. You might try installing irssi and see if it works.
