Okay, I've been trying to install red hat 9 on my laptop and the installation seems to go flawlessly. After successfully installing it, it says to reboot the machine to finish setup. It goes through its boot routine and checks and has the green "ok" on every check. Things look good up to this point. Then when it goes to load up the gui an error comes up saying that it can't load the x server and there is a problem with shrike or something, I can't remember exactly what it said, i'll be able to post the error message more specifically later. But any thoughts what could be causing this? I was trying to install the gnome gui, haven't tried kde, maybe that would work instead. I didn't tamper with the installation configurations either, i just accepted the defaults on everything. Any chance my cd's are bad? I bought the distribution cd's with the book a year ago and I had previously successfully installed it on another machine last year but now it is just being fussy.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
