wireless router/modem registration?

I am a computer novice! My wireless router/modem broke and my server replaced it. I was able to get my Mac, my ROKU and my grandson's Nook connected, but not my laptop that has a Linux operating system. I couldn't find anywhere to enter the passcode found on the bottom of my modem. Can someone lead me through this in beginner's language?
Thanks

If you could identify the "flavor" of Linux on the laptop ? Ubuntu, Debian, or ?

Usually there is an icon ( a little symbol that could be interpreted as a wireless signal ) that you could right-click on to enter your password, but it would be best to know the answer to the above question to help you....
