Wireless notebookk card step by step instructions please help !

I need to install a notebook card on ym laptop that has Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS. Can someone please give me step by step directions on what I need to buy / do. I've searched forums and done my hw but all answers just lead to a bunch of links to 30 different web sites says contradicting things. Please help me by telling me step by step what I should buy and what I need to do. I'm getting really confused and discouraged.

What's your wireless network card? Can you post the output of /sbin/lspci

I don't have one, I need to buy one but i don't know what I should buy. I want one that will cause me the least ammount of headaches getting to work.

I do have a Cisco WPC100N along with the disk to it, that I used for a windows machine but i herd that doesn't work at all?

Check LQ's hardware compatibility list
