wireless G adapter won't go online

I just went to a wireless internet connection and was given a Linksys wirless G adapter for my laptop Latitude c840. It had Xubuntu 9.10 on it which works fine but....It does not recognize the adapter so can't get online(goes online ok on the windows side. Is this a driver issue? If so where can I find them?

tink, thanks so far sorry I can't be more consistent getting back to you. Answers: I am using xubuntu 10.10 downloaded re directions on site. All worked very well when I was hard wired in for internet. Secondly the lusb command did not list the card as found. It(card) is not usb but a large card that slots in the right hand side of the computer right above sound connections

Thanks
