Question windows don't see Ubuntu

I have win7 an Ubuntu12 comps in a ethernetwork. Ubuntu can mount windows shares, but windows can't see the ubuntu shares any more, earlier ubuntu was prima visible. Isuspect an update from ubuntu, may in the Samba server???

I have had serious problems with getting shares to actually appear between linux and windows. I would love to know if there is a good reason and a way to fix it. However, to make sure that things still work, does it work if from windows you go to the share by the IP address of the linux computer? So if you go to \\192.168.1.1\share

did not try that one, will do that tomorrow. Then will also have a look at the samba configuration

could not connect, looks like the DHCP does not work anymore on my linux comp and I have to install some more packages.

i've just installed ubuntu server 12.10 and had no problems with Samba / picking up network drives from windows.

in fact i just copied over old contents from the old config file, restarted samba and all was working..

is samba working / active and using the following: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-...mb-shares.html

Can your ubuntu server see its own shares via samba.

From the windows box can you ping the server?

What happens if you go to \\servername\ does it prompt you for a login or does it auto show the available shares?

Any firewalls active and blocking the samba ports?
