What do you get when it fails? Since you get a seeming correct dig/nslookup reply that we think you dns is correct and your browser ought to have used it. The ip should have worked unless that server is using host headers.

For grins you could also try traceroute

go http://160.96.1.173/ and get Bad Request (Invalid Hostname) on white screen
