Why can't I read CDs burned w/Nautilus or K3B on my Windows box?

Hello All - I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. I want to archive a large collection of photos to CD. I can successfully burn the files to a CD using K3B or the Nautilus utility. However, I cannot read these CDs on a Windows machine. I've tried various settings; raw vs. auto, various combinations of CD file system settings (Rock Ridge / Joliet extensions enabled / UDF) without success. Previous posts rec'd ensuring that Joliet extensions are enabled. However, I've not yet been succesful.

The problem appears to be with the selection of the CD file systems. I can create ISO files on my Ubuntu box and read them with no problem on Windows.

I want to make sure that the resulting CD's are OS-neutral. I'd like to make sure that they're readable on Windows, Linux and Mac.

Any recommendations? Thanks....

Lightbulb well it mite be this

hello what linux dist. are you using because i used Damn Small Linux and it reformatted my CF card from a 512mb to a 50mb.when i put files on it. and it wouldn't let me view my files ether. so it must be using a different formatted file. But i switch'd my OS
to Xandros(another linux dist.)sense then iv had know problems transferring my files on a CD or a CF card.

Try putting joliet extensions on the CD. You can do that in k3b. MS Windows doesn't read rock ridge extensions.
