which distro for slow pc (1200 Duron + mx420) used for oO and movies + server

heya
im wondering which distro would be good for this pc:
1200mhz socket A Duron
nf2 chipset motherboard
integrated CMI8738/C3DX audio
MX420 video card
512mb ddr 400 ram (initially possibly only 128 333)
this pc will be used for watching movies and stuff like open office & just web browsing. i know my fathers computer(900mhz celeron/512mb sdram/4mb integrated video) cannot run movies smoothly in windows but when kanotix live cd is booted up they run fine in that.
so basically im looking for a linux distro which uses minimal resources(so nothing big like suse 10) but bundles with good video codecs and has a nice GUI for a beginner, it should also bundle with a good media player, open office and konquerer or mozilla. the operating system will be permanent and the only one on the pc so no live cds and no need for dual booting.

also i am building myself a server which will feature
athlon 2200+
1gb ddr 400 ram(512mb initially)
9600XT
GA-7VT600 1394 motherboard
i will also put in a intel gigabit network card.
it also has a cheap Xsonic silicon image sata raid add in card plus a bunch of hdds formatted to NTFS
since ntfs is read only in linux im thinking about dual booting. the pc will mainly be downloading and serve as file hosting on a LAN so mainly files will be downloaded, dumped and shared from this pc. i dont want anything too complex as im a total another reason im thinking about dual booting for this is i cant even install programs under linux but ive tried several distros and like using them once theyve set themselves up, i just cant change much. maybe i should get one without a GUI that i just boot up and it loads up the networks adaptors and everything and then i can grab the files from it? but id also need to disable windows share on it and install at least dc++
i can use DOS quit well but ive seen people use commands in linux and it all looks quite different to me >_<

lastly im looking for a distro for my main pc it is:
3500+ s939 am64
asus V-A8N(or something like that) deluxe wifi edition motherboard
X850XT gfx(i heard the ati ceo doesnt like linux and therefore driver support is poor )
2gb ddr 400 ram (1gb initially)
i will defo still have windows on this computer for running my games and because im not very comfortable with linux. ive run various distros(xandros 3, fedora core 3, suse 9.3, opensuse 10.1) all these are very nice but have more features than i will use. i would like linux on my main for listening to music and doing work with open office nothing more

thanks alot for helping out a

For your first System:

Kubuntu

Mandriva

PCLinuxOS .92

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.
