wget error:

im using redhat 9.0 and wget 1.9.. while trying to connect to an url, it keeps trying with this message
failed: No route to host. Retrying.
On pinging to that ip , it gives "Destination Host unreachable".. im using proxy settings to access the net. will this be a problem in wget or ping.. is there any proxy settings to be changed to ping outside our network.. im new to network concepts. can anyone pl help me?

yup setup the following environment
Code:
export http_proxy=192.168.1.254:8080
replace the IP address and port to meet your requirement.

put this in your .bash_profile to make it permanent
