webcam play on arm-linux kit

hi,

when i attach my logitech quickcam to my arm kit, i see that cat /dev/video0 gives a continous stream of characters in my serial terminal. does that mean that the webcam is working fine and the driver was loaded sucessfully?

i use cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg

after sometime i press ctrl-C

it saves the file test.mpg, size in mbs.

when i play it with the gnome-mplayer, the slider bar moves ahead but shows nothing at all.

i took the file to my another pc with windows xp and tried to play it with vlc player. here also the progress bar moves ahead but no display.

how to get over this?

regards.
