VSFTPD.log nonstandard output RedHat 9

This seems so fundamental it must have been asked but I can't see it. Apologies in advance if I'm wasting your time.

VSFTP seems to use differrent text strings to go with FTP codes. i.e 226 "File receive OK" as opposed to "Transfer complete".

I and some other people have some jobs hanging off of these replies (me off of the log file, them from the FTP session replies). A standard library of theirs managed OK on RH8 (and other platforms too apparently).

Is there some config option that I have missed that would force VSFTPd to use standard messages?
