VNC doesn't pay any attention to what graphic environment you usually use, and by default it uses twm, which is a horrible environment. To change it, you need to open your ~/.vnc/xstartup file in a text editor. Find the line that has twm & on it and either delete it or comment it out. Then add the gnome startup command (be sure to add the & after it) and save. When you start vncserver the next time, it should be using Gnome.

Hi, all...I have a problem which may consider stupid, but i feel unsecure about this one and i hope you can explain to me.

when I try to change the password on winvnc(server), and then after that i open the server again, it is still the old password that appear, the password did not change.

What i am trying to ask here is:

How to change the password?

I am using windows XP service pack 1.

if I can change the password, maybe I will try to install it to my Red Hat 9, otherwise I wont feel secure with this winVNC.

Hope you can help me with this stupid question, greatly appreciate it , Thanks

I don't know about windows, but at least on Linux, there is a vncpasswd command that lets you change it. If that isn't working in windows, I suppose you could find the file that stores the password and delete it.

By the way, it is kind of poor form to hijack a thread with your own question, particularly since your question is not really related to the one in the original post. You stand a much better chance of getting an answer if you post your own thread.

I,m running XP with Realvnc 3.3.7 and have no problems changing the password.

you could try running settings from the XP command line
cd to vnc server dir and run winvnc.exe -settings

if you still have a problem I would say you need to do the old Microsoft fix - reinstall vnc

cd to the dir that the vncserver program is in and run it.

./vncserver

will tell you "New 'X' desktop is servername:1" to connect to
