VLCMedia Raspberry Pi. 4K Video

Hello everyone,

this is probably not 100% a Linux question, but I'm having the issue on my Raspberry Pi with the standard Raspberry Pi OS. My original assignement was to turn the Raspberry Pi into a Videolooper (or more precise a Presentationlooper) where you plug in a USB stick with the presentation on it an make it run automatically.
I decided to make this using a Bashscript which starts on startup.
Now everything works fine in general but the Video is supposed to be portraid on a 4K screen.
I initially used a 1080p video. When started the video when black and the black part was just in a quarter of the screen. So i assumed that turning the video into 4k will resolve the issue. But everytime i start a 4k video with vlc media on my raspberry pi the video just turns black. No matter if full screen or windowed.
So this is basically my main issue. Everything would work fine if vlc media would portrai 4k videos but for some reason it does not. Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

You may need to up your video ram allocation in /boot/config.txt. Improved drivers for the RazPi 4 arer promised for the 6.2.x kernel.

As for your problem, run xrandr before and during the playing of a 4k video and post the results. It sounds like you're not doing 4k on screen.
