virtual desktop disable

How do I disable the virtual desktop in x-windows?
I'm running debian from a knoppix hd-install and I don't see anything that says virtual or viewport in my XF86Config-4 file:

ANother topic that has been covered here exhaustively ;)

The X server will ALWAYS use the highest given resolution
in your screen modes section for the desktop. So, if you
want to have 1024x786 (for example) just remove all higher
resolutions.

Yes, I am aware of that

I just remember in SuSE I could do ctl-alt +/- and not get a zoomed desktop on all my resolutions. . !

But can't in debian. . .
