vcs/1

What is the difference beteween a ttsy/x logogin and a vcs/x ?

I'm used to the tty response (although I don't fully understand it- but it works for me so I don't mess with it) but now i get this this message saying the last time I logged in was on VCS/1. Does this mean a virtual console and if so what are the implications ?

A bit confused.........
