No idea what "ugrib" is. And we might be able to help you with your phone, if you provided details. Like version/distro of Linux, how your phone is connected to your PC, what you've done/tried, etc.
Depending on how your phone behaves, and how it's plugged in, you may just be able to run "wvdialconf", and have it detected, then use wvdial to connect to the internet.
I think there free satellite fax type of weather provided by the US military for world locations. Actually used to use a fax to print it out. Not sure what the download frequencies were.
It may be possible to get a different product from them to view both data and voice.
Ugrib is a viewer for grib files which give wind pressure etc date usful when navigating at sea
i have a ubuntu distribtion, thuraya satellite phone is connected via usb
i used wvdial but wvdial.conf must be adapted to thuraya. Any idea on what to put in this file?

the nice thing about ugrib is that you tell it inmarsat satelliteas a com and it finds the phone and get it to download the gribfile

Yes...as I said in my first post, run wvdialconf, and it may set things up for you, depending on how your phone is detected.

When you connect with wvdial, that makes the connection. So set up zgrib for whatever device is detected/used by wvdialconf.
thanks, i am a newcomer fro linux so q bit slow
i have found a conf like this
[Dialer thura]
Init2 = ATZ
Stupid Mode = 1
Init1 = AT+cbst=71,0,1
Password = none
Phone = 1722
Modem Type = Thuraya phone
SetVolume = 2
Baud = 115200
Dial Command = ATD
Modem = /dev/ttyACM0
Username = none
Inherits = Modem0
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
FlowControl = CRTSCTS
i do not understand what stupid mode is
From a brief Google search:
Code:
Stupid Mode
When wvdial is in Stupid Mode, it does not attempt to interpret any prompts from the terminal server. It starts pppd immediately
after the modem connects. Apparently there are ISP's that actually give you a login prompt, but work only if you start PPP, rather
than logging in. Go figure. Stupid Mode is (naturally) disabled by default.
